Atiku Abubakar GCON was born on 25 November 1946. He is a politician and businessman from Nigeria who served as Olusegun Obasanjo’s vice president of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007. In 1990, 1997, and subsequently in 1998, he ran for governor of Adamawa State and won. He then served as Olusegun Obasanjo’s running mate in the 1999 presidential election and was re-elected in 2003. Since his first debut in 1989, Atiku Abubakar has run unsuccessfully for president of Nigeria five times: in 1993, 2007, 2011, 2015, and 2019.

He ran in the Social Democratic Party’s 1993 presidential primary, but lost to Baba Gana Kingibe and Moshood Abiola. When the Action Congress ran a presidential candidate in 2007, he finished third behind Umaru Yar’Adua of the PDP and Muhammadu Buhari of the ANPP. During the 2011 presidential election, he ran in the People’s Democratic Party’s presidential primaries but lost to incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan.

Prior to the 2015 presidential election, he joined the All Progressives Congress in 2014. He ran in the presidential primaries but lost to Muhammadu Buhari.
