Following a brief illness, Ukhozi FM host Bongani Mavuso passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at a hospital in Umhlanga, KwaZulu-Natal. Majuba Mavuso, his brother, confirmed to SowetanLIVE. Mavuso was checked into the hospital on September 26, 2022, a Monday.

“Bongani was taken by ambulance to the hospital. After making a full recovery from his prior sickness, Bongani dies away. In 2019, he once experienced a sickness that caused him to pass out during a broadcast. He improved. He performed his performance on the air this past weekend. The family as a whole is damaged.

Bongani Mavuso revealed via his LinkedIn account that he used to work as a Facilitator at Umgeni Water for around 1 year.  After thereafter, he joined Ukhozi Fm and started working as a Senior Producer and Presenter there till his passing. He served on the board of the Gcinamasiko Heritage Trust in addition to this. He also served on the IsiZulu National Language Board’s Advisory Council.

He held the roles of Executive Director and Recording Artist at KaMavuso Verse Entertainment for the past 20 years, demonstrating his versatility. Since March 2017, Mavuso has served as the group chief executive officer of KaMavuso Group (Pty) Ltd.
