Helen Keller Biography: – Helen Adams Keller was also a prolific author, having written 14 books as well as hundreds of speeches and essays on subjects ranging from animals to Mahatma Gandhi. Keller advocated for disabled people, women’s suffrage, labor rights, and world peace. She joined the Socialist Party of America in 1909. She helped start the American Civil Liberties Union.

Helen Keller’s autobiography, The Story of My Life, published in 1903, popularised her schooling and life with Sullivan. William Gibson turned it into a play, which was then made into a film under the same title, The Miracle Worker. Her birthplace has been classified as a National Historic Landmark and will be protected.
It has been run as a home museum since 1954 and hosts an annual “Helen Keller Day.” In 1971, Keller was inducted into the Alabama Women’s Hall of Fame. On June 8, 2015, she was one of twelve first honorees into the newly established Alabama Writers Hall of Fame.

She was born in West Tuscumbia, Alabama, and lost her sight and hearing at the age of 19 months due to an illness. She, therefore, communicated mostly using house signals until she met her first teacher and lifelong partner Anne Sullivan at the age of seven.
Sullivan taught Keller linguistic skills, such as reading and writing. Keller attended Radcliffe College of Harvard University and became the first deafblind person to achieve a Bachelor of Arts degree after attending both specialized and mainstream institutions.
