Ward-Prowse joined the Southampton Academy at the age of eight after playing for East Lodge since the age of six. He later played every match for the under-18 team in the 2010-11 season before becoming a full-time scholar in 2011. He secretly trained with non-league Havant & Waterlooville while at Southampton Academy in order to “toughen” himself.

International Career of James Ward-Prowse

Ward-Prowse began his international career with England’s under-17 team, where he earned seven caps in two tournaments between 2010 and 2011. In 2012, he advanced to the under-19 team, where he played four times, and in 2013, he joined the under-20s for the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey, where he played all three matches, none of which England won. Ward-Prowse received his first call-up to the England under-21 team in August 2013, at the age of 18, for the 2015 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying games against Moldova and Finland. He played 64 minutes in the first match and the full 90 minutes against Finland, where he scored some of England’s most obvious goals.
